The Road
               to Success

SUCCESS STORY

“…to reach your dreams is like sailing at the largest and deepest sea in a stormy weather. It is like climbing a rose w/ many thorns. It is really an uneasy journey before you can taste that sweet resounding success. Thus, you must face the risk, feel the pain and taste the bitterness before reaching that pot of GOLD…”
-REFLECTION OVER THE FALLS
Kristine F. Badua

Ma’am Kelly born w/ cleft lip was loved by her parents so much that they have never let her feel she’s different. She is an intelligent and strong woman. She always take that she is normal and don’t have any defect. When she was in elementary she encountered how to be bullied by her classmates but she never allowed herself to be affected. “naaalalako pa nungtinutuksoakong classmate kohinabolkosiya at sasobrangbilisniyangtumakbonadapasiya at nataponang 2 kilongbigasnadalaniya at angginawako ay sinipakotalagahehehe” .
She is always top of the class and she remember what her teacher told her when she was in grade 1 “hindiakonagkamalisayo” when she entered high school in Bulan National High School she felt that not all the people would understand her condition and accept her for who she is. She experienced that even with her teachers. “Noon kasiisasamga project naming angi-record angboses at walaakong choice kundiang mag-comply dun kaya ginawako. At ngpinakingganyun, nagtawanantalagaangmga classmate ko. But despite of what happened I have never lost confidence and believed that if people could not accept me and that is not my problem anymore. I don’t want to punish myself for having this condition because if I do my life would be nothing.
When Kelly graduated high school she decided to continue her studies at University of the Philippines-Los Baños but her parents don’t like that idea but she insisted and told them that if she would study there whe won’t be able to achieve her goals in life. “Naalalako noon mag-eenrollpalangako, anghabangpila at nangmalapitnaakohindiakopinayaganna mag-enroll kasi 6 thousand angkailangankongbayaran at 1 thou langdalako. I asked the staff if I could talk to the head of the school and she allowed me and this is what I told him, Sir, maatimmo bang dahillangsahalagang 6 thou masisiraang future ko? SabikokasinponpagbumalikakongBulanhindinaakomakakapag-aral.” The head of the school was amazed and let Kelly enroll. Kelly didn’t suffer any discrimination when she was in college. She took up BS in Forestry and became active in different school organization.
Year 2001, she graduated at UP-LB she showed to everyone that she has succeeded in life despite of all the criticism and discrimination. Now, Kelly is the Department head of MENRO or the Municipal Environment Resource Office in the municipality of Bulan. According to Kelly, in life there are many challenges that you will encounter before you can taste the fruit of success and if you let other people to ruin your life, you will end up nothing. She said that the key to success is to believe in yourself more than anyone could, study hard, be strong, set your goals in life and most of all trust God that He always has the best plan for all of us.

Failure Stories

Failure Facts and Trivia

"Fail" is the name of a popular Internet meme where users superimpose a caption, often the word "fail" or "epic fail", onto photos or short videos depicting unsuccessful events or people falling short of expectations. In July 2003, a contributor to Urban Dictionary wrote that the term, "fail," could be used as an interjection, "when one disapproves of something," citing the example: "You actually bought that? FAIL." This most likely originated as a shortened form of "You fail" or, more fully, "You fail it," the taunting "game over" message in the 1998 Japanese video game Blazing Star, notorious for its fractured English. There is an entire Internet site dedicated to "fails" called Fail Blog. The #fail hash tag is used on the microblogging site Twitter to indicate contempt or displeasure, and the image that accompanies the message that the site is overloaded is referred to as the "fail whale".

      Short Stories

We all have dreams in life and as we grow older our dreams differ. As a kid you dream of toys, the next thing you want to be a billionaire. But as they say every success stories go through failures, we can’t avoid it or run away from it. It happens.
There are moments that you feel nothings right and everything seems to fall apart. Philip Gipaya had moments like that. He felt that the world is always against him, that everything that happens to him isn’t just right. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Marine Technology in Fatima College School in Manila. Many would say he’s one lucky kid but not to him. He doesn’t want that course and he just finished it because it’s what his parents’ desire. He has sacrificed his happiness for his parents.
During his study in Manila, he was once accused of cheating, which he said he didn’t do. He was hurt because his classmates look at him differently.
On his second year in college his mother and two siblings migrated to USA. His mother said that Philip and his eldest sister will follow them soon after his mother had fixed all the papers for them to migrate as well.
His mother said it will only take a year, but it took more than that. He graduated college, two years after his mother had left. Life without his parents is sad. He graduated without his family to celebrate it while his classmates are happily sharing that moment with their families.
He felt lost and asked God why is He keeping him lonely. The worst doesn’t just end there. After Philip's graduation they had an interview at the US embassy, Philip thought he could finally be with his family, but unfortunately his sister was the only one leaving the country. Philip’s application was rejected because there were problems with his birth certificate and he was alone once more. Now, Philip’s here in Bulan and left alone. While he’s waiting for his papers to be fixed he enrolled in SIT. He said he had cried enough already. He can’t explain how painful it is to be left here alone while his family is on the other side of the world. Though he still have hope of being with them soon and don’t give up and keep his patience.

"I take you to be my lawfully wedded, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part."
Weddings are so wonderful. Every girl wish to walk on the aisle and take vows together with the man they love. Vicky is one of those girls who dreamed of that. She wants to have a happily ever after marriage with the man she truly loves. She got married to the love of her lie on April 22, 1984.it was a magical moment and she strongly believe that it would last forever. But something has changed as years goes by.
Vicky and Felix were blessed with five beautiful children. They were a happy family and Felix had been a good father buy one day she had noticed something with Felix. He always gets home late and when Vicky would ask where he from it would only turn in an argument. Until one day she found out that Felix is cheating on her. The magic finally ended when Felix left them for another girl. For fifteen years of togetherness she didn’t imagine that day would come. She was devastated. She didn’t know how to tell her kids about their father leaving them for good. What made their life more difficult is that Felix didn’t support them financially and Vicky has to support her family alone. Vicky worked hard to provide all the needs of her five children especially those who are in college.

Vicky didn’t give up, she continued to fight the pain brought by her husband’s dishonesty. She was able to support her children’s education through college. Her eldest daughter Che is a graduate of Industrial and Manufacturing Engr., Alex is Electronics and Communication Engr., Lesley is a Civil Engr., and her twin son are still studying. Her children studied hard to show their father that they can live without him.
Now Vicky is an underwriter at BF Life St. Peter Life Plan Chapels. According to her even though her marriage didn’t worked and she failed to find the right man, she is still happy because she has loving children and that is more than enough for her. She said that getting married is not an assurance of happily ever after life. There are a lot of challenges that will come and try to ruin your  and if both of you are not strong enough and faithful to your promises when you take your vows, it will not work just like what happened to them.

Failure is inevitable. It is experienced by every individual. The only thing that differs it from each person is on how they take it. Some people take failure as a stepping stone, some can’t just let it go and to some failure means “I just got to stop trying” or “”maybe it’s not meant for me”. It doesn’t mean you’ve given up but it’s a realization. Realizing you don’t need what you’ve been trying to get because you already have what truly matters.
It was a realization made by Mr. Cesar Gubaton, a retired municipal fire marshall and the present president of NAGMATA NA Inc. (Nagkakaisang Maralitang Tapat at Naninindigan Inc.) when he decided to stop aiming the position of Brgy. Captain in Brgy. San Vicente, Bulan, Sorsogon after three consecutive losses in the election. He was an advocate of peace and order and helping the youth, good governance and ethical leadership.
A chance of performing his advocacy wasn’t given to him in the thought of him not being involved to gambling and doesn’t drink nor smoke had negativity. He says people might had the wrong impression towards him because he plans on getting rid of the cock fight in the barangay if he was ever elected as Brgy. Captain.
Thrice he had took the risk of running as a public servant but it was his third time that he felt that the people he lean on failed him. He says he didn’t plan on running for the third time anymore but his friends encouraged him to go once more, now that the municipal mayor is on his side, he will win. Unfortunately, he failed for the third time. It was then he realized that maybe politics isn’t his line of success. He is now contented with his simple life, being the father of eight beautiful children who all graduated with a degree and that’s  more of an accomplishment to him. Though he had not got the throne, he will continue serving the public in any way he could extend a hand in helping the people.
What I admire about Mr. Gubaton is that his failures didn’t give any negative effect on his personal outlook in life. He treid, he failed, that’s it. He doesn’t keep hard feelings grudge, or anything to anyone.

It takes courage
     to find True Love
 -Mylene Formanes and HanyG.

Every girl has an ideal man. She sets standards in looking for her Mr. Right, but when destiny plays its magic you may find someone whose personality doesn’t fit your standards. This is a story told by Ms. Aisa Golloso-Diesta, a respected Science teacher in R.G. de Castro Colleges. We choose to cover Ma’am Diesta’s love story because we were infected by her and her husbands’ affection towards each other in the photos and posts in Ms. Aisa’s Facebook account. And it was an honor for us to hear the story of what true and unconditional love means. Aisa and Reynald began their love story in the serendipitous of ways. They met when Aisa was a second year high school student in Bulan Vocational School (now, Bulan National High School) and Reynald was her schoolmate. When Aisa first saw Reynald she wouldn’t thought that someday they could have a relationship.Reynald was exactly the opposite of her ideal man. Reynald was a naughty boy and as Aisa said “marami s’ya noon kafling-fling”. Aisa, as she considers herself one-of-the-boys, became friends with Reynald. Aisa also shared that she was even the one making love letters for Reynald’s love interest.

sinasamahan ko pa s’ya noon manligaw. Ako pa yung kakatok sa pinto at magpapaalam sa nanay nung babae para payagan lumabas at para makapag-date sila. Hehehe.”

She said “sinasamahan ko pa s’ya noon manligaw. Ako pa yung kakatok sa pinto at magpapa-alam sa nanay nung babae para payagan lumabas at para makapag-date sila. Hehehe.” She and Reynald,as Aisa can say, became best of friends. Though they became close to each other but

Reynald was just a friend and nothing more. When Aisa was running for a position in the school’s organization, it was  Reynald’s chance to repay Aisa for helping him out. That was the same time Aisa discovered something about Reynald that she didn’t know before. Reynald was a responsible man despite of being a playboy. They stayed friends until they have finished high school but have lost communication after. They didn’t see each     other for four years. Until one day Reynald found   Aisa and he confessed       to her, saying that he     have loved Aisa since     high school but he didn’t   have the courage to tell   her and was afraid that he   could hurt Aisa for he’s not   yet ready for a serious   relationship. Aisa just laugh   at him, she couldn’t   believe that Reynald, the high school heartthrob, is trying to win her heart. Aisa was frightened by the situation. She doesn’t know what it is like to be in a relationship, but she loves him so she took the risk.

August 18, 1998, Reynald became hers and Aisa became his. They became officially lovers. It was the best day of their lives. It wasn’t hard for them to understand each other because they already know each other well. Aisa said a relationship that started as friends were the best ones, because they don’t have to explain everything to each other, they would understand. Though at first Aisa’s mother was against their relationship and think that Reynald would only hurt her daughter. Reynald, being determined to be with Aisa, worked hard in college to prove himself to Aisa’s mother. Reynald was a responsible man and that was something Aisa admired about him. Year 2005, Reynald and Aisa had a civil wedding before Reynald went back abroad for work. Aisa discovered that Reynald was an outdoor man, and she didn’t understand that at first for she was more of a house girl like she could stay at home reading books.

Aisa thought marriage is all sunny, happy and gay but something happened that took all the smiles away. Reynald is working abroad and it’s been hard for them to be in a long distance relationship. Aisa got pregnant for their first baby but unfortunately the baby died inside Aisa’s womb and it had nearly caused her death. What happen was too painful for Aisa and his husband is miles away. But because of what happened Reynald resigned from work, went home to Philippines and chose to comfort his wife. It was a brave decision, giving up your career for your wife. Aisa got pregnant again but the doctor said the baby would die again so she needs to undergo medication. Aisa’s condition has been hard because they are both unemployed and they don’t have money. What’s worse is that something’s bothering her about Reynald. (Girl’s instincts, most of the time it’s true) she was right; Reynald confessed that he had a relationship with another girl while he was abroad.

Aisa was devastated, she’s lost and badly hurt. She didn’t understand why Reynald did that to her. She has been a loyal and a loving wife. Reynald’s unfaithfulness didn’t made Aisa give up, it had only made her strong. She needs to, for her baby.  It was years befor Aisa did forgive and forget what her husband did, but they have managed to start over again. Reynald have learned his mistake. Aisa said, “siguro kung hindi nangyari yun, yung namatay yung first baby namin hindi nya marerealize yung mga mali niya kasi inamin naman niya saakin eh. At nakikita ko naman na nagbago na siya.” Aisa believed that what had happened in the past had made their relationship stronger. Reynald  showed that he is a great family man. He loves and respect Aisa tremendously despite his weaknesses. He is a wonderful father to their children, a thoughtful son to his parents, an understanding and generous brother to his siblings. He is a person of integrity and that despite his macho image , he is a Godly man who never fails to pray every night. Aisa said that a long and lasting relationship needs to be with God on top because if you would just leave everything to God, everything will be fine and you can surpass all trials; fidelity is most important; and acceptance of each other’s weaknesses. With all the trials that they had gone through, they have managed to solve it all together because they have faith in each other, because they love and treasure each other. As Aisa qouted “marriage is hell if you marry the wrong person but it’s heaven if you marry the right one.”

“marriage is hell
 if you marry the
wrong person but
 it’s heaven if you
marry the right one"

Mistaken Identity
            -HanyG.

I’m sure you are all familiar with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the story, Romeo and Juliet’s love was forbidden because their families were great rivals and lead to both of their deaths. When I was a child I didn’t know the real score of the story. I just knew that there’s a story entitled Romeo and Juliet that and it’s famous.

My family used to live in Antipolo City and visit Bulan only during summer. I was fond of my relatives here and love to be with them. We would stay in my grandmother’s house. Her name is Juliet and her husband died long before I was born, so I never got a chance to see meet him. He was P/capt. Romeo B. Guban. I’ve learn his name from the photographs clinging in my grandmother’s living room. (That looks like more of a hall of fame than a living room because her 9 children’s photos and diplomas were neatly framed in the wall. That is how she’s proud of them all). Staring at my grandfather’s photo, I got to thinking, wow! My grandparents are fe-ey-mous! So I ran for search of my father and asked him if the famous Romeo and Juliet story was based from the real life story of my own grandparents, his parents, and my good father seriously said yes. I was so enthusiastic with that revelation and can’t wait to go back home and tell the news to everyone at school, that my grandparents are Romeo and Juliet. (Which of course they are) so when I went home and got to school, I told news to my classmates. We we’re nine or ten back then and so naïve, I believed my father and they believed me. It’s funny and embarrassing thinking about it now but yeah it happened. I just wish they had forgotten about it now.  It just so happen that my parent’s names were coincidentally alike with famous Romeo and Juliet. And so I believed in destiny. Knowing the truth didn’t upset me. Instead it lead me to believing that there is really someone meant for you. He’s out there looking for you, making his way to find you. Just like how my grandfather Romeo found his Juliet.
And so I believed in destiny. Knowing the truth didn’t upset me. Instead it lead me to believing that there is someone meant for you. He’s out there looking for you, making his way to find you. Just like how my grandfather Romeo found his Juliet.

How I found Juliet
          -HanyG.

My grandparent’s names weren’t the only one interesting about them. The magic that brought them together was the same magic that lasted for years and that bore eleven children. Their meeting was the most romantic catch of all.
Juliet was the eldest child among her ten other siblings. She wasn’t able to finish college so she went to Manila to live with her younger sisters. Juliet and Nena, one of Juliet’s younger sisters, paid a visit once at the Malacañang Palace, what was the purpose of their visit was, he don’t remember. Malacañang Palace is where the Oresident of the Philippines live. It’s equal to USA’s White House. Every guest of the said Palace was to sign in a log book containing their names, address and purpose of visit. Romeo, my grandfather, was a presidential body guard and that he lives in the Palace too. They didn’t meet when Juliet visited Malacañang. Juliet met Romeo when Romeo come knocking at Juliet’s door. Juliet didn’t know Romeo of course but Romeo knows Juliet quite well. Romeo fell in love with Juliet the moment he saw her in the Malacañang Palace. Romeo couldn’t take her out of her mind. He just got to see her again. What he did was looked for Juliet’s name in the log book and hunted her address down. When destiny had brought them together, Romeo made it a point that nothing could take Juliet away from him.

“When destiny had brought them together, Romeo made it a point that nothing could take Juliet away from him.”
Romeo won Juliet’s heart on July 1957 and after nine months of being together as lovely couples, they decided to get married on April 19, 1958. Juliet had become Romeo’s Queen. Romeo won’t let Juliet out of her sight. They have lived in the Malacañang Palace for two years after they got married. Juliet lived a happy life with Romeo. They bore nine healthy children. Their life wasn’t perfect, there has been lots of ups and downs, but they managed to live through it.
Romeo had a heart attack once and caused his death on November 15, 1988. Though Romeo died, his love for Juliet will forever live for God alone was its true witness. Their love will always be an inspiration to their children, their children’s children and for the next generation of Romeo and Juliet.
And that is how Romeo found Juliet…
